Footpaths are trading points in Dhaka city
Dhaka is one of the most crowded cities in the world. More than twelve million peoples have been living in this city. There is only one way communication system in the city. Only bus, taxi and ricksha are the main transport methods in the city. No sub-way, trum, or underline railway system are established in this city yet. So, in the morning and afternoon people have to struggle a lot in the street of Dhaka to arrive in office and return home.
Like other problems walking on the footpath specially in the centre of crossing moore people are struggling a lot. They cannot walk in Moor area. Illegal business in the footpath is the main problem. Hundreds of people cross the road in firmgate and zatrabari area. At the down point of over bridge hockers set their shops illegally. Thousands of illegal shopkeepers make jam to walk in the crossing area.
For many years common people have been facing this problem. No government can solve this problem. This should be a major shame for all governments in Bangladesh. As a Dhaka dwellers every citizen expect removal of this problem immediately.
Political dirty links, police corruption, governments elite groups and city corporation are responsible for this type of illegal business in footpath. As a city dweller it is our fundamental rights to walk on the footpath. But the government of Bangladesh is failed to meet this very simple demand of citizen.
I have been living in Dhaka city since 1983. From the beginning I have been seeing this problem. No change of this traditional illegal business is seen to me. I am astonish to see this scenery of dhaka.
In this moor or crossing area people have to push others to walk on footpath. Sometimes they have to wait in the line to pass the way. Sometimes unexpected incident like snatching, theft, pick pocketing are happening in this crowded points.
Due to overcrowded situation in moor or crossing point people come down into the street and make artificial traffic jam. So Traffic jam is a regular incident in those points.
Police can remove this problem easily but due to receiving commission or bribe from illegal shopkeepers they do not force on them. In the long run people have been suffering incrediable problems to walk and cross roads in crossing and overbridge area.
Finally, we will expect immediate government action to present hocker's free footpath. Otherwise government's popularity will go down day by day from the citizen of Dhaka.
