FIGHT AGAINST THE GLOBAL HUNGER BY PROF GHULAM MOHYUDDIN.WANI FOUNDATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF KASHMIR.JK INDIA. Email fastwani@in.com Introduction In our previous articles we discussed many issues concerning global food production and various problems associated with it. We also dispensed with the pessimistic predictions of world shortage in food production and mentioned a few humble ideas to ensure food for all until 2050.Here in this section , we shall review the world aid to eradicate the hunger. With food dumped in stores across the world , the huger persists and people die of hunger. The transport of the food costs more than the food . At present it is estimated to cost 65% of the aid for food to reach its destination. The aid donors are few and takers outnumber the million score. With 3 billion more by 2050,let us examine in the following pages how could the aid bills be enhanced and indigenous productivity increased citing examples of Indian success stories.. U .N. RESOLUTION OF FUND COMMITMENT In a 1970 UN Resolution, the industrialised nations committed themselves to tackling global poverty by spending 0.7 percent of their national incomes on international aid by 1975. Only Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Denmark regularly meet his target The 22 member countries of the OECD Development Assistance Committee, the world's major donors, provided USD 103.9 billion in aid in 2006 - down by 5.1 percent from 2005 The largest donors were the United States (US$24 billion), Japan (US$18 billion), the United Kingdom (US$13 billion), Germany and France (US$12 billion each), the Netherlands (nearly US$6 billion), Spain and Italy (just over US$4 billion each) representing 80 percent of the total My humble suggestion here is not to leave the matter of funding FAO OR UN agencies to the developed nations only. Why not the countries in the nuclear race or having nuclear power invest some of its wealth for the hungry. During the last few years in the perpetuating war we have seen it is the food distribution which suffers first and the poor is the target of these upheavals and wars. He is victim without being a partner to the war on either side. The police also never fire the man on the front of the mob but on its side lines. Therefore strict guidelines be adopted to honour the commitment of the food distribution in these war on the basis of Genava conventions. Fund Raising Dilemma In my humble appeal it is time that all of us big or small, rich or poor tax our selves just one dollar per year. It will make available around 6 billion dollars now and may be some are generous to donate more .If on an average 10 % of us donate 100 dollars per annum a huge sum could be the regular budget of these donor agencies. A system at global level has to be evolved for permanent funding of these agencies. The Islam provided a system. Every Muslim has to pay2.5 % of his annual saving for the welfare of the society and poor' This is called Zakat. If these donations are collected, we will find huge sum for distribution among poor in the world. We can fight hunger with more persistence and confidence. WORLD COMPOSITION If the World were 100 PEOPLE, 50 would be male and 50 female. The proportion of children in any society is 20%.but there are only 14% Older than 65.Among the world community 61% are Asian,12%European,13About the Author:
