Pharmaceutical, healthcare information, medical technology and Biotechnology companies are a few of the types of companies that hirer medical marketers. When looking for a job, you will not find one companies requirements that are the same as the other. A degree in one of the life sciences(biology, chemistry), or a business degree with a good number of science classes is helpful. If you don't have one of those, your chances are not good. People experienced in the healthcare industry, marketing industry, engineering or sales have an added advantage because medical marketing jobs combines all of these things. The wide range of requirements can make it difficult to find an opening that you are qualified for. If you are a new to medical marketing you can start as a marketing assistant and work your way up.
Training classes for medical sales and marketing personel are available. Known as Medical Sales Vocational Training, these study courses can be helpful for those with little or no experience or for those who want to brush up on their skills. Some of the things you learn in these courses are industry and medical product knowledge, new sale techniques, and medical sales techniques.
So, although a degree is not required, it is difficult to find employment as a medical marketer with without one. If you do not have any experience or education, a vocational course will be a tremendous help in landing a position. Starting small and working your way up is always an option. Eventually you will have all the experience and expertise to no longer just assist, but to be on your own, or even get into management.
