Dealing with Menopause Together with Your Spouse by:James Pendergraft

You and your husband can work together during the trying times of menopause instead of having friction because of it

. It is expected to be very difficult during the start of menopause when almost all of symptoms arise with more frequency. To maintain a healthy and enjoyable relationship during this time, it is best to have your spouse and family members understand that you need their understanding and care the most as you go through this natural change in your life.

Here are among the many things that could be done by both you and your spouse to effectively cope with menopause together:

* If you are feeling unattractive and undesirable, let your spouse know so that he will know how to respond to your mood. Although it is not likely that you will believe him when he gives you compliments, his love, care, kindness, and support would help ease your feelings of inferiority.

* Educate your husband about your mood swings. Once you are experiencing one of them, this will give a signal to your husband to keep silent. Although your husband might see you as irrational during these times, his keeping silent would help you calm down some.

* Tell your husband what to expect when it comes to your sex life. Because there is a great chance that your feelings towards sex will change during menopause, let your husband know about this. This is so you can work something out together so that this problem can be addressed and your sex life brought back to what it once was. A healthy sex life would not only help you cope with your menopause better, it will also be good for your relationship with your husband.

* Encourage your husband to listen to what you have to say. Tell him that you need a partner to talk to during this trying stage and he is the best one that you could have. Give him an important role in this time of your life, so that he will work at putting himself in your shoes and won't just brush off your thoughts and feelings as if they were nothing.

* Let your husband know how his thoughtfulness could be very much appreciated during those times when you are bothered by menopausal symptoms and possibly in one of your mood swings. By doing this, your husband could perhaps give you flowers or a card or equally something to let you know that he understands and loves you. Let him know how refreshing it would be if he would make the dinner plans instead of the other way around.

* Make a household partner out of your husband. If you are feeling overwhelmed by what you are going through on top of your busy schedule, it would help if you will work out a system with your husband on which household chores should fall on your lap as well as on his. This will make your husband feel important and part of what you are going through.

In moments of perfect sanity, tell your husband you love him and appreciate what he is doing for you. This will make your husband glad that he has been the perfect partner in coping with the problems you are having while going through menopause.
