When it comes to dating, the church has a very delicate battle on its hands
. On the one hand, it wants boys and girls to get together but on the other hand it is wary of the risks associated with this. Namely that there will be pre-marital sex. It was easier for the church to maintain the rage 40 years ago when society felt this was taboo but now that it doesn't and barely anyone cares about this it makes even more difficult for them.
There is no doubt that society has become considerably more relaxed as far as this go. The media pumps out messages that being sexual is good. This is echoed in modern music and modern dress. TV shows and films reinforce this. So all in all it would seem like a losing battle.
What the church has got going for it are people themselves. While it is easy to sleep around, many people don't want this. This is because of people feel after the fact. A feeling of being cheap and dirty. So in turn, people make the decision themselves to save themselves for someone whom they love; for someone whom they have a real connection with.
This is why social activities churches run are popular. As it allows people to meet the opposite gender is a safe and relaxed environment. What is very popular is games nights and karaoke. The most popular type of game would be bingo. It is a fun game which doesn't get too out of hand or too competitive.
The great thing about bingo is that besides being a nice game for people of both genders, it is also appropriate for people of all ages. Thus it provides older people who are divorced, widowed or never married the chance to meet people. This is invaluable as the older you are the harder it can be to meet people. You would be surprised how successful this type of event is in connecting people.
It is also good for people who aren't party people, per say. Many people aren't and in fact are intimidated by parties and a room filled with strange people. What they do is nurse the same drink in their hand the whole night and keep the plant in the corner company. There could be great people there for you to connect with but it's never going to happen.
The same thing applies to dances. Many people go but yet are scared to death of asking someone to dance. Then there is the issue of them not having any clue about exactly how to dance. The fear of one making a fool out of oneself on the dance floor is a pretty big one.
That is why when one's guard is down and doesn't expect it, one is more relaxed. This is the irony of it all. Whether it is a game of bingo, a fete or a bible studies class. One is spending less time thinking about what they are going to say and just be the person they are.
