Cash Gifting And The Two Schools Of Thought
The debate over the legitimacy of cash gifting has heated up in recent years with
the now universal tool of the Internet perpetuating more of these systems than ever. There are two very clear sides when talking about the gifting systems, and neither can distinctively claim to be right. This dilemma will remain for a long time, and it will ultimately be up to you to decide if you want to venture into the gifting arena.
One side stakes it claim that cash gifting is perfectly legal and can make money available to people who join their system for a small membership fee. They are right. They have an army of followers who can back up their claims and prove them right.
The other side will tell you that cash gifting is a scam that is not profitable at all, costs people their money with never seeing anything in return and even has sent some to prison for tax evasion. They are right. They have an army of followers who can back up their claims and prove them right.
Now do you see the problem with cash gifting? Neither side is wrong. With this situation more than most, the shades of gray are not only in a million different forms, they are seen in a different light by each side. While the extremes on either side are easily identified, the middle ground on this battlefield is unclear, and the fog of war is thick. One person may see a slight financial loss as just a bad investment or less than due diligence on their part, while another may yell scam because they expected a guaranteed return. While there are no guarantees in anything in life, if one is promised one thing and delivered another, that could be a true scam as well.
The debate about cash gifting will rage on for a long time since the laws are feeble at best in deciding legality of the practice as it has been now developed on the Internet. The government is stuck between calling it a business or not. They must find clear parameters to draw so that the eight-year old girl getting money from her grandmother on her birthday is not held responsible to report it to the IRS, but that people creating gifting businesses and turning over millions of dollars a year in profit do pay their fair share in taxes.
Either way you look at it, the decision is up to you if you feel you not only find it legitimate or not, but whether you wish to partake in the cash gifting enterprise. Just make sure you do your homework before stepping onto that train.
