B2B or Business to Business Marketing is the process of promoting your products or services to another company or business.
Your business marketing is a little different to consumer marketing as the target market is different. With consumer marketing you has only one client the customer. They are not a business but an individual. With business marketing you have four areas for your clients. The first is purely other companies who use your products and services, the second are government agencies, the third is institutions such as schools and hospitals, and the last but not least are resellers.
If you sell parts to an auto shop this would be an example of the first type. If you supply products or services to hospitals, government institutions and other agencies for their day to day running this would be the next couple of types. Then the last one is when you list your products with businesses like Amazon that then resell your products or services.
Consumer marketing may require you to deal with multiple individuals where as business marketing may require you to deal with one person within an organisation.
For many businesses, the market they trade is in relatively small. This can mean their customer base is also very small, which makes the marketing process very simple. You know who your customers are-you just need to figure out the specific marketing communication strategies that are going to work for each product and service. Company branding is very important in business marketing. Your company brand needs to be standardized across all aspects of your company material, including communication methods like email.
Trade shows may be an avenue for you to market your business. They are useful for networking, and meeting new clients who are looking for products or services similar to yours. Local business events can be a great form of networking also as you can meet the buyer and they are specifically designed to create business relationships.
You can also use direct mail to target customers if you wish. Direct mail is good in the way in which you target a client with a specific product or service. Brochures, leaflets, and other promotional material can help your brand get out there and also create awareness. Telemarketing can also be used for the direct approach and is another good way to target specific companies or clients.
Many larger businesses use Public Relations firms and other publicity experts to keep themselves in the public eye by using the media to publicize upcoming promotions and newsworthy material. Other forms of media advertising include industry specific magazines and publications.
