Why should you be branding yourself?

Okay. Youve started a MLM business, and you want to market it online. You have probably been provided or have purchased the rights to use a company created website. These websites are usually generic sites with the companys name in the URL along with your ID attached. The ID is usually either placed before or after the companys name in the URL. Heres an example:

www.acmebeautyproducts.com/johnsmith

The company is Acme Beauty Products and their rep is John Smith. This is typical for network marketing companies to do. When you are marketing your opportunity or products, you must brand yourself starting with your domain name.

When you create your web presence online people must buy into you before they will ever buy a product or get into business with you. This all begins with first impressions.

Its just like building a MLM business offline. Your mentor should have explained the importance of dressing sharp and looking like a professional when doing any kind of sales meeting or business presentation.

Weve all heard the phrase dont judge a book by its cover, but in the real world thats exactly what everyone does. You will be sized up and categorized almost entirely based on your appearance at your first meeting with someone new.

Branding yourself online begins with the domain name.

This first impression holds true online just like it does offline, and it all begins with your domain name. The domain name is how to start branding yourself online. Its like a billboard with your name on it. Think about it. You send your website URL to someone in an email. What looks better? www.acmebeautyproducts.com/johnsmith or www.johnsmakeoverheaven.com ? The answer should be obvious.

Start branding yourself using one of these strategies:

There are a couple of different strategies in deciding your domain name. First, is the generic approach. For example, I own a system generate free MLM leads online. My domain name could look something like explodeyourmlm.com or exponentialmlmgrowth.com . Both of these domain names are fairly generic in the fact that they say something about growing a MLM business, but really dont say how exactly. This peaks the readers curiosity and makes them want to click on the link to learn more. This is exactly what you want in a domain name.

Its like the curiosity approach taught in MLM offline. You tell the prospect you are working on some business projects, and things are growing like crazy.. . . . . you get the gist. They are curious and want more information.

The second aspect of choosing your domain name is branding yourself as a person of value. This positions you as somewhat of an authority figure in the readers eyes. They gain some respect and buy-in with you as a person and want to find out more. An example for John branding himself might look something like this: http://beautybyjohn.com or http://johnsmithsbeautyemporium.com. Both of these position John as an authority figure in the beauty arena.

An example for a MLM business opportunity website might look like http://workwithjohnsmith.com. Again John is positioned as the expert willing to help.

Select your domain name to brand yourself.

Before you go over to godaddy.com or some other domain name provider spend some time brainstorming ideas for branding yourself through your domain name.

A good way to do this is to just write down a list of every idea that comes to mind. Get at least 20 or so different domain names written down, and then pick the top five.

From there get a business associate or a friend to give some feedback on the top five. Get 3 or 4 opinions and base your choice from them. Just be sure to use credible people for this. Im not talking about Aunt Sally the school teacher. Nothing against Aunt Sally. Shes just not qualified to give you input in this case.

Often, these people will actually come up with some other ideas you didnt think of for a domain name. Heck, theirs may even end up as the best way to start branding yourself.
