Benefits Of Daylight Light Bulbs
Light bulbs have evolved with the advent of energy-conscious initiatives to reduce the impact of consumer products
. Daylight light bulbs, otherwise known as compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), were one of the first innovations to hit the market. Heres a quick review of the benefits of these newer, efficient light bulbs.
The familiar spiral-shaped bulbs seen in hardware and general merchandise shops come in many different varieties. For our purposes, daylight CFL bulbs produce a very bright light that has a colour temperature of at least 5,000 degrees Kelvin. The light they give off is more toward the blue end of the spectrum, and more closely resembles daylight from the sun.
There are also daylight light bulbs that have a special neodymium coating, and these bulbs more closely resemble standard incandescent bulbs. They have a wide range of wattages and are sometimes used in photography as an alternative to more expensive powered flash units.
The CFL daylight light bulbs use light much more efficiently than standard incandescent bulbs by generating less heat with less wasted energy. The CFL bulbs have less mercury gas inside the tube, but they still require proper disposal to control the amount of gas released into the air. The end result is a more pleasing, natural indoor light source.
Furthermore, the Energy Star website reports that, on average, CFL bulbs use 75 percent less energy, saving in costs over the bulbs lifetime, and last ten times longer than incandescent bulbs. The higher cost of a CFL bulb is generally recouped within six months to a year based on savings on electricity.
These lights can produce the same amount of brightness using less energy as higher wattages of standard bulbs. They also last much longer than a standard bulb would. For areas like living rooms and photography studios, these valuable differences save people money and create more comfortable living environments.
Interior designers have capitalised on this technology to enhance living spaces for their clients. Artists and crafters enjoy the seemingly brighter intensity of daylight light bulbs to see the projects they work on more clearly. Some who subscribe to light therapy have even claimed the bulbs actually improve their vision.
The bulbs themselves are more sensitive, in terms of exposure to extreme temperatures and their intensity when first switched on. If used outdoors, they typically work best inside fixtures that offer some protection from the elements. They also work best when left on for more than a few minutes at a time.
Because of these limitations, it helps to choose environments for daylight light bulbs that suit the unique characteristics of their operation. You wouldnt put one in a refrigerator or as an oven light, for instance, since the frequency of turning a bulb on and off would defeat its energy-saving purpose.
A better choice would be to put these bulbs in areas where people read, study, relax, or spend lots of time in, like living rooms or dens. By choosing the right intensity of light and the right application, CFL daylight light bulbs bring better lighting solutions indoors and save energy.
