Being Parents To Our Parents-what It Means For You-are You Ready?

When I first used this term "being parents to our parents" nearly a year ago

, I was referring to aging Americans who don't have the financial resources to be in a nursing home or an assisted care facility, but must rely on their children to take care of them.

Bear in mind that their children could be in their 60s or 70s themselves. More than likely they are in their 50s and most probably are still working. This creates all kinds of financial problems related to home healthcare.

If the children can afford it, home healthcare is an option. This consists of various levels of training of professional caregivers from registered nurses to a high-priced babysitters. This is the option that is open for people who have Alzheimer's disease or dementia or a disabled. They require almost constant attention.

The question is can you trust the caregivers? There is all kinds of anecdotal evidence of caregivers, who steal from the home, abuse the parents, use drugs and all kinds of problems. You just never know.

For parents who are still pretty mobile and independent the option is to leave them at home alone.

In either case it is beneficial to the parents of the parents to keep an eye on them. But how do you do that?

A solution that is not a foolproof answer is an internet based surveillance system. That way you can watch mom and dad while they are at home from anywhere. All you need is an internet connection and a computer. And you can keep an eye on visiting caregivers and domestic help as a bonus.

Internet based surveillance systems/cameras will allow you to view what is going on at your parents' home from anywhere in the world with as many as 16 cameras. They can be located indoors or outdoors and can keep an eye on aging parents and anyone else in the home.

It may not be a perfect solution to all situations but it can offer a viable way to keep an eye on aging parents and others. It may be the way to keep peace in the family from your home, office or anywhere there is an internet connection.

When are you getting one?

A complete surveillance system for your home or business is great way to solve some of your internal and external security needs.

When you need to find out what is going on at your home, office, business when you can't be there a surveillance system may the answer.

Surveillance cameras keep an eye on your home when you can't be there to watch your kids, your nanny, your spouse, domestic help or repairmen. They are great for home security too.
