Baby Play Pens - What Baby Thinks
There is always a lot of debate as to whether you should use a baby play pen or not. I decided to take a novel approach to imagine what babies themselves might think of baby play pens rather than accepting the adult's point of view.
Of course, it's only guesswork, but let's take a look at baby play pens as a baby might see them:
I am asleep, I think. I am dreaming of Mummy and Daddy and lovely food. Suddenly, I realise that I am awake, and look around me, bleary-eyed and not knowing quite where I am. Then I look down and see my mattress; look up and see my fluffy tiger called Tigger and smile as I realise I am lying on the mattress of my sanctuary - my very own wooden play pen. For a baby my age, it's quite a large baby playpen, and I love every inch of it!
Becoming more awake, I hear noises from the door of the kitchen where my playpen is located. It's Mummy, I think. I struggle to pull myself into a sitting position and yes, I can see Mummy talking to someone at the door; I can't see who it is. After an age, Mummy closes the door and turns, and I shout to get her attention. "Hello", I say, but she can't hear the word I am thinking because it's too soon for me to talk properly yet. "Hello" says Mummy, and comes over to me. Seeing that I am quite happy and contented, Mummy returns to chopping vegetables at the worktop. Soon Daddy will be home!
I turn to Tigger and cuddle him, thinking of all the adventures we are going to have together one day when I can walk. It's warm, and my eyes feel heavy once again.
I must have fallen asleep again in my baby play pen sanctuary, because I awake with a start when I hear a deep voice - it's Daddy. Quick as a flash, I squeeze into the corner of my play pen and try to hide from him, as I always do when he comes home, but it's no good because over he comes and starts to tickle me! He tickles my feet, which makes me fall onto my mattress and laugh and laugh.
Daddy then starts to play our game. I put a hand on the top bar of my play pen, and Daddy creeps up on it, really slowly, then suddenly he grabs my hand with his huge fingers!
There's no doubt about it, for this baby, the play pen is a real hit!
