Are Shipping Rates Negotiable?

Many people use a Chicago Messenger service to make deliveries every single day

. The cost of shipping for companies that need regular shipping can mount very quickly. In order to try and reduce the overall costs that a company has pay for shipping, many people have questions about how much flexibility might exist in the shipping rates that the courier they are using may have set. If you are shipping regularly with a company though, there may be some room to try and get a lower price on your regular shipping bill.

If you do want to try and get a lower shipping rate, you have to first just accept the fact that you're going to have to become proactive in your efforts to try and secure lower shipping prices. The courier company is never going to arbitrarily lower their prices and decide to offer you a discount. This would be foolish on their part. On the other hand, if you're able to offer them something which provides a value of some kind to them, then they will have a good reason to try and work with you to offer you an acceptable discount.

If you are going to be successful at negotiating a shipping rate, then you're going to have to offer something to your courier company. This might not seem like something which you can easily do, but you may have more to offer than you realize. If you're currently shipping with more than one courier company, you can offer to consolidate all your shipping with the single company that you are seeking to gain a discount from. This offer of additional business is good incentive for them to find a way to offer you some form of discount.

When you're trying to negotiate your shipping prices, don't worry too much about getting a large discount on a single order. Although this might seem like a good way to save money, it is short sighted. Instead, take the long term view. Try to get some kind of preferred rate for your organization with the courier in order to save much more money in the long run.

Saving 10% on a massive delivery might seem like a lot of money at the time. However, a 2% or even 1% discount which you get on all your shipping with a courier company will amount to many more dollars saved in less time than you might think.
