Some advanced Texas Hold Em tells are more subtle and harder to grasp than others
. I'm going to explain the basic chip stack Hold Em tells for you.
Players reaching for their stacks when you go to bet:
Bottom line a player wants to bet because he wants to play!
Basic - usually a sign that they are keen to bet because they have a good hand.
Advanced Texas Hold Em - advanced players will purposely do this tell when they have a weak hand.
Super Advanced - will do this four or five times when they have a weak hand and then when they have a very strong hand will pretend to do it, making you think they have a weak hand, so you bet all-in and lose.
Players looking at your stack:
Opponents that do this are literally 'seeing' your chips as theirs
Basic - usually a sign the player has a good hand are think they will win against you
Advanced Texas Hold Em - I find advanced players too look at stacks when they think they will win. But they might be looking at a different players smaller stack because they think they can beat that specific person
Super Advanced - will be looking everywhere and anywhere. I wouldn't rely on this one here. Watch for being setup as well.
Players looking at their own stack:
When the cards drop on the flop, turn or river, a player that glances down at their own stack for a split second because they want their cards in the pot!
Basic - they have a good hand and want to play
Advanced Texas Hold Em - they have a hand they think they can win with and want to play
Super Advanced - Their thinking about how well they are going to obliterate you. Or they won't even do the glance at all.
