A Guide To Purchasing An Air Conditioning Installation

Deciding to get a new air conditioner and have it installed is a big job

, whether youve got a home or a business to consider. Of course you never should wait until the whole system quits working entirely, if you can help it, but deciding when to replace the old system can be a bit tricky. And then there is the issue of what kind of system to buy and how the installation process works. Should you do it yourself? Ask yourself these questions when you get ready to start shopping for a new air conditioning system:

How large is the area that you want to cool? In the world of air conditioning systems, bigger is not always better. You may think that buying a bigger system will just mean that it will cool the space more quickly, but there is much more to it than that. Systems that are too large for the space they are cooling will cycle on and off too rapidly. This means that it will cost you much more than you should normally have to pay to operate that system. It also could cause moisture problems to develop inside your home or business because it wont stay on long enough to remove enough humidity from the air.

How many controls do you need? All buildings used to have just one control for the air conditioner, but that is rapidly changing. Most businesses will need more than one control, and even homeowners today are finding the benefits of having more than one control for the system.

Is more than a simple air conditioner needed? In many cases it may be helpful to purchase a system that does more than one thing. For example, some of them have dehumidifiers that are built right in. Others offer electronic air filtration, which may be a benefit if you have someone who suffers from allergies to almost everything.

When is a good time to buy a new system? Timing your purchase just right is also an important part of the process. Air conditioners are sold at varying times of the year, usually anywhere from May to September depending on which part of the country you are in. The majority of air conditioning units are sold in July or August, so if you shop toward the extreme end or beginning of the season, you may find it easier to get a good deal on a high quality system. However, you also have the overall temperature of the season to keep in mind too. Long, hot summers when the air conditioner was used constantly usually result in there being a low supply of units, which results in higher prices. On the other hand, if the summer was very mild and didnt require the use of the air conditioner very much, you should be able to find a deal on a new system.

Of course just as important as buying the right unit is getting the right installer to actually put it in. You should make sure that the installer you use specializes in the type of installation you need. For example, business owners probably shouldnt hire someone who puts units into homes all the time because they may not have the expertise required to deal with a larger building like the one your business is housed in.
