Weight Loss: My Story

How many diets did I start and stop? How many times did I set impossible goals for myself, only to become frustrated when I deviated even slightly from the script and then in frustration, seek massive amounts of food in order to at least dominate over something in my life that I felt that I had control over? How many years did I waste by not being consistent in my efforts to lose weight and get healthy?

These may be some of the questions that you have asked yourself over the years and that my experience is not 100% unique. If that is the case, then it would behoove you to read this article and then to click on the link below so that you may better help yourself to get healthy and to positively affect those around you as well.

Eating, not because one is hungry or taking part in a useful celebration, but simply as a way to prove to oneself that he or she has control over something in their life, is very dangerous and destructive. This is in part, not only from the unhealthy aspects of eating just to eat but because often times, the symptoms go undetected. That was the case for me. I looked healthy on the outside. I was young and active in sports. An unhealthy body image as well made it impossible for me to become obese. However, I was overweight and it consumed my self esteem or lack thereof, for the majority of my adolescent and early adult years.

Whether it was from feeling lonely or hopeless to positively control any aspect of my life, I found solace in food and the fact that I had total control over what I ate and how much I ate. Only those who have suffered from this can really relate and to outsiders, such behavior might seem bizarre or even "crazy." However, only those who have found and received, even for a short time, solace in eating a whole loaf of bread or an entire bag of chips when they were already full from a previous meal, just to help calm their nerves, can really understand where I am coming from.

Was this behavior healthy? Not at all! I was never obese but I had digestive problems/pains almost every day from such eating habits. A loss of energy, motivation and stomach pains/cramps usually followed. It is correctly stated that when one does not have their healthy, what else matters? This is in part due to the fact that a decrease in the quality of our physical health, adversely affects our mental and spiritual health as well since they are all interconnected.

Losing weight is not only about lowering your BMI and getting your weight to where the experts think your weight should be at but it is about living a healthy lifestyle and being comfortable in your own body and in your own skin.
