Nowadays it can be quite difficult for one to find all the time he or she would like to make it to the gym. Whether it be work, school, children, spouses, significant others, or any other obligations, it seems there are always outlying factors that make regular gym visits way too uncommon. The beauty of all this is that exercise, fitness and health do not need to mean that one goes to the gym every day. There are a number of small tweaks that one can change in his or her life to jump start fat-burning and muscle growth without spending countless hours on the treadmill or pumping iron.

One of the most important parts of losing weight and building muscle is diet. It is common when one hears the word diet for he or she to immediately assume that a complete lifestyle change needs to take place. In all reality though this is not correct. Something to consider before looking into eating just healthy foods is a proper portion. With the fast food markets today people tend to take in way more calories than they even realize they are consuming. This trend also seems to follow into all meals eaten. It is very important to understand what a serving size is. Learning a little about what a meal size should consist of, instead of what seems like the right amount of food is essential to consuming the right amount during meals. Most would be surprised to hear things like a serving of meat is actually the size of a deck of cards or that a serving of spaghetti is just 32 noodles. Learn the correct amount of food to eat before worrying about exactly what you are eating and you will be taking a step in the correct direction. Gain as much knowledge as you can from all of your resources (books, products, etc.) and you will succeed!

The other contributor that makes up the groundwork for losing weight and building muscle is exercise. Exercise is another field that is filled with many misconceptions. One of these includes the idea that going to the gym is how people must get their exercise. Spending countless hours on the elliptical or lifting weights for three hours a day is not a reality for most people. There is just not enough time in the day for most of us to get all of our work done and then spend a chunk of time working out on top of it. Due to busy schedules, little motivation or any other factors people must know that exercise can be anything. Gardening, cleaning, laundry, walking, running, yard-work, any sports, jumping and dancing are just a few of the plethora of different things one can do to "get themselves a sweat". It is as simple as that. Do something, anything, that gets your cardiovascular system working. It is one thing to build skeletal muscle but it is more important to keep the heart muscle strong. Just get a sweat in and get the blood flowing through the body. Try just ten minutes a day, then make it 15 and then 20 and so on. Seek outside help from books, videos, programs and other tools to make the most out of your efforts.
