Wedding Etiquette To Keep In Mind

You'll be invited to many weddings reception and ceremonies in your lifetime to celebrate the start of a couple's life together

. If you're invited to a wedding then you need to keep in mind that weddings offer a wonderful environment to network, socialize and even meet women. Majority of the males don't know what it takes to be a classy guest, therefore, whether you're the best man or not, the tips below will show you how to behave and actually convey the "best guest" image in a wedding you've been invited to.

Lets start from the moment you receive the wedding invitation; here you're required to respond immediately to confirm your attendance or alternatively send your regrets for non-attendance. Common courtesy requires that you inform the hosts of your availability status because this helps them with planning, head count, and seating arrangement. When invited to both reception and actual wedding ceremony; make a point of attending them both, this is a sign of respect. Suppose you can't attend one due to one reason or another; then state it in the card.

Please don't bring unvented guests

A wedding is not a booze party, if you're married or dating, then you can only bring a guest if their name appears on the card, the same applies to children; if they haven't been invited then keep them at home.

Cancel only when necessary

It doesn't make much sense for you to cancel your invitation just because you got a better offer somewhere else, this is extremely disrespectful. If your plans change and you have some very good reasons for not being able to attend the wedding, then you should inform the hosts at least a week or two in advance. Unless you get seriously ill or some other tragedy occurs, you should attend.

Self-invitation is a disgrace

With invitation no assumptions are allowed and especially with colleagues. Do not ask to be invited or make absurd comments like "maybe mine got lost in the mail", Weddings are expensive to organize and the host may not have the ability to invite everyone, so, don't make it personal.

When invited to a wedding, you'll most likely have to bring along a gift, when shopping for gifts remember to...

Select wisely

Remember that you're attending a wedding involving two people namely "bride and groom", therefore when choosing wedding gifts get something that will be appreciated by both parties. It's even better if you can combine effort with a number of friends and purchase something bigger than giving small things individually.

Generosity counts

Figuring the value of a gift can be tricky. The golden rule is that you give the equivalent of what you meal costs, if you're attending as a couple, multiply by two. You can also give money or check.

Send a gift

Inquire ahead if it's okay to come with your gift to the reception or send it to the bride prior to the ceremony. Most people prefer that the gift be sent to the bride before the wedding because this ensures that it's received and doesn't disappear during the festivities. Attach a card with your name (both) to gift. Finally, send a gift whether or not you're attending the wedding.
