How To Prevent Fainting At Your Wedding

I've had the privilege of working closely with a wedding planner in a large metropolis

in the tropics where majority of weddings are done outdoors and I've learnt a lot from observing the way my professional friend and colleague prepares the bridal party through rehearsals to prevent the occurrence of fainting. According to her, the major cause of fainting is prolonged standing and dehydration. So how does that occur? Read below.

Dehydration

The human body needs to be adequately hydrated to maintain a constant normal blood pressure. Dehydrated causes the blood pressure to drop making a person feel light headed. The human body requires enough water and by "enough" I don't mean just drinking to quench your thirst. To begin with, thirst is not a good indicator of diminishing water levels in the human body. Thirst is perfect indicator that you're dehydrated. Remember that the absence of thirst doesn't mean you're well hydrated. Alcoholic and caffeinated drinks can cause dehydration.

If you're a member of the bridal party you're thus advised to take enough water before the wedding and do the same on the wedding day; go easy on alcoholic drinks at least until the wedding is over. Take water in smaller quantities, like a glass or two 20 minutes to wedding while you prepare. It takes about 20 minutes for body cells to assimilate the water and become fully hydrated. Taking water before the wedding and if possible in the course of it will ensure that you stay hydrated the whole day.

Many people avoid water because they dislike the inconvenience of having to go to the bathroom, to avoid this try dashing to the bathroom at about the same time that you took some water and you'll be fine. Don't skip meals; this too can have negative impact on your performance but not as bad as dehydration if you stay healthy.

Prolonged inactivity

Standing for extended periods of time causes blood to pool in the foot, this could be as long as 15 minutes. If you're standing with your knees locked, for instance standing with the knees pushed back, this interrupts normal blow flow to the brain causing the light headed feeling. The solution is to stand with your knees relaxed and feet slightly parted; occasionally shift your weight from one foot to the next, do this slightly as frequent rocking could be bothersome to others. Try to also wiggle your toes inside the shoes.

People hardly pass out without warning, if you've been standing for long hours and or haven't had enough to drink and feel dizzy or light hearted you're advised to sit down immediately. Whether on the floor or on a chair sit down immediately to avoid falling down which could result in injury. When you sit down you actually reduce the possibility of passing out.

It's obvious that if you're the host you may not have much control over guests; the trick is to have water bottles distributed or place a water dispenser with disposable cups within reach. As a wedding guest then it helps to bring along a sports water bottle for emergency.
