Anusara yoga, developed in 1997 by John Friend, is a brand of Hatha yoga that focuses on harmony and joy. Anusara is based upon the Tantric philosophy and the "Universal Principles of Alignment" which sees goodness as having an intrinsic nature. You can remember Anusara by the three A's: Attitude, Alignment, and Action. The main focus of Anusara yoga is positive attitude, alignment awareness of the body, and the flow action of energy. To be more specific it tunes you into what your body does while perform each pose.
ASHTANGA: The Power Yoga
Ashtanga yoga was first developed by K. Pattabhi Jois. This particular brand of yoga is an extreme style of yoga that focuses on performing its poses, flowing in certain order at a fast pace. When literally translated, Ashtanga means "eight limbs," The eight limbs stand for a path to cleansing made up of eight spiritual practices. Since it is practiced so fast it naturally requires a lot of endurance. Many of you may have heard of Ashtanga yoga because it is commonly known as "the power yoga."
BIRKRAM: The Hot Yoga
Birkram Yoga was developed by Bikram Choudhury and has gained the reputation of being "the hot yoga." Why is it called the hot yoga? Because the 26 poses are practiced in temperatures higher than 95 degrees! According to Bikram, practicing at high temperatures allows your muscles to loosen and also help you sweat- which is a key method of cleansing toxins from the body.
