Three Common Baby Gifts You'll Never Use

Deciding what you'll need for a new baby and what to add to a gift registry can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time

. Baby items are big business and companies have come up with all kinds of gadgets and gear to spoil baby and the parents too. Some of the baby gear you will find you cannot live without. Other items you'll wish you had returned.

The Temperature Sensing Rubber Ducky

This rubber ducky is certainly cute. And with the promise of preventing a baby from being burned, it becomes a hard to resist baby gift. On the bottom of the duck is a colored patch with the word "hot." When placed in warm or hot bath water, the colored patch brightens so that you can better read the word "hot." Now, because the rubber ducky told you, you know that the bath water is too hot for your little one. Another cheaper and more common sense option is to put your hand in the bath water. If you think the water is too hot, then it's too hot. This rubber ducky makes a fun bath toy, but using it to determine if the bath water is a safe temperature for your little one is questionable.

Diaper Warmer

This gadget sounds like a great idea. You plug it in at the diaper table, place some diaper wipes inside and it keeps the diaper wipes nice and warm for your baby's bottom. No shockingly cold wipes in the middle of the night for your baby. Once baby arrives, parents usually realize the absurdity of this popular gadget very quickly. You'll find that often diaper changes happen nowhere near your plugged in diaper warmer. Whether in a bathroom stall, the car or on a park bench, your baby will be just fine with wipes of any temperature.

Bedding Set

Chances are your baby will never use that precious bedding set you carefully picked out. Often the centerpiece of the nursery decor and one of the more expensive new baby gifts, a baby's bedding set tends to get stuffed in a closet once baby is born. The thick comforter poses a suffocation risk and should not be placed in the bed with the baby. The adorable matching baby bumpers that line the crib also pose a suffocation risk. Once baby can roll over, he may roll into the thick bumpers while sleeping. The bedding set may get used if your child moves to a toddler-sized bed in a few years. However, if he moves directly to a twin size bed, you will forever have a baby bedding set taking up space in a closet.

These are three items that you can skip when making your baby registry list. Add general bath toys and boxes of diaper wipes to your baby gift registry, which will get used. Instead of using a bedding set as your nursery decor inspiration, choose wall hangings or a fun sheet set. With all of the options to choose from for baby supplies, you can comfortably skip these few.
