Making the day out of Strolling in Westerpark, Amsterdam

Westerpark was named as such because of the beautiful park that dominates its landscapes, filled with strategic waterscapes and people lounging around with picnic baskets, kids running around the lined trees and adults reading a book or chatting the day away. Aside from the park, there are so many restaurants, eating areas, cinemas, galleries and unique buildings to search through. First off, when its unique architecture that youre looking for, head on to Amsterdam School and Silodam. The latter is a beautiful building which looks like its suspended above the waterscape and was commissioned off of one of the great architectural firms in Amsterdam, MVRDV. After the foot tour, go to a restaurant, maybe WestergasTerras where a nice view awaits through their terraces or to Rainarai for some authentic Algerian cuisine. For those on a budget, one can try the Caf Restaurant Amsterdam which serves delicious hearty meals in what used to be a 1900s engine room. Have fun!

Take a day drive through Muiden and spend a day at Muiderslot Castle

Just 15 kilometers off Amsterdam, in the town of Muiden, the Muiderslot Castle (named so because Muiden means rivermouth, affirming the castles location) is set to explore its 132nd anniversary as a museum this coming 2010. Muiden means rivermouth and aptly gives a clue to the castles location and Muiderslot was in a good location indeed, it being used as an ammunitions depot during the Medieval Period and as residence to many prominent figures prior to that evident in its collection of medieval arms, painting and armories. The Muiderslot castle was restored back to its original beauty back in 1954 after having been threatened of demolition on several occasions prior before the government and the local town unit stepped in to officially name it as an important historical monument in Amsterdam, and the town of Muiden itself. The rooms from the kitchen down to the bedrooms have been fully restored properly to its original concept as when Count Floris V first built it. From Amsterdam, one can either drive going to the castle or take a bus at Amstel Station which can take one to Muidens town center every 15 minutes.

How to Conquer Zaanse Schans in a Day

For those looking for some old world charm which shows many interesting parts of Dutch History, Zaanse Schans is the way to go, just 20 minutes away from Amsterdam proper. There are so many details in this town that show remnants of it as an old 17th century industrial village from the clog workshop, the still working windmills which allow visitors in on selected days and the cheese factory. The cheese factory is a great place to go to as it gives out a quiet tour of how cheeses are made and even distributes samples for tourists. One can either bike going to Zaanse Schans or take the train to Koog Zaandjik and then walking about 10 minutes going to the museum village. The village is meant to be a day trip however if you want to stay overnight, theres the Hotel Sans Pareil available for you. Dont forget to drop by the Museum Zaans in order to know about the local customs and history of the whole village.
