Review: TaylorMade R9 Max Driver

The R9 Max driver is a Japan only product designed for increased distance; it features an overall lighter weight, low deeper center of gravity design and a 45.75" length. Taylormade launches the new R9 Max Driver for 2009 with two models. The standard 420cc R9 and the Japan market only, USGAconforming460cc TaylorMade R9 Max.

The new R9 Max Driver from Taylormade Japan features Flight Control Technology (FCT) which lets the player adjust, face angle, loft and lie. The R9 also has one back weight port with a 4g weight(MWT) to promote a deeper CG and increase MOI for forgiveness and optimal trajectory. Classic club head shape with high MOI for easy launch andmaximum performance. The R9 Max also features TM's Inverted Cone Technology milled directly to the inner side of the face which creates an expanded COR zone. The TaylorMade R9 Max Driver also uses Ultra Thin Wall technology allowing for thinner club head walls for weight savings.

The R9 Max is also available with the Fujikura Motore F1 TP 65J (Japan version) in Stiff (68.5g low-mid kick) or X-Stiff (70g low-mid kick) at an additional charge. The combo of these assets creates a club that is easier to hit and produce a faster swing speed with more carry and distance. Of course this driver still features the same FCT setup that the R9 is so famous for, this is simply a package for golferswho have less ego and want more pop to their driver.

Let's face it for those of us who have tried the current Taylormade R9 on the market it just isn't the longest and compared to the previous Taylormade driver models in some cases has been noted to be shorter. We all know the best thing about the R9 Max Driver is how adjustable it is and in many cases by adjusting to your specs creates more distance but for the golfer who has his/her swing in tune the carry is a bit lacking to some.
