Is Your Diet Making You More Stressed

There are many people stressed out these days

There are many people stressed out these days. They are stressed out at home, at the office and even when they go on vacation.

Stress can be caused by a number of reasons that trigger the symptoms of the condition. There is good stress and there is bad stress. The good stress we need to get things done and to achieve our goals. The bad stress that is associated with anger, frustration and anxiety has negative implications for the body. Stress is fine once and while however, when it becomes a regular occurrence it can have a negative impact on the body. Stress has the effect of releasing toxins into the body's bloodstream which can result in a number of side effects that can include exhaustion, bad moods and digestive problems.

The diet you eat also has a bearing on how well you can cope with stress. For example, there are foods that will help you cope more effectively with stress and there are foods that will make your stress even worse.

If you are suffering from stress and you feel that it is affecting your health then, take a look at your diet and see if you can improve it. A healthy well balanced diet will help you physically and emotionally to cope more effectively with stress. The following are a list of foods that you should avoid if stress is becoming an issue.

Foods high in salt

Sodium has the effect of increasing the bodys blood pressure as well as draining the adrenal glands. This has the effect of making you more emotional and erratic. Therefore, cut down on your intake of salt. You can now use salt substitutes that use potassium rather than sodium. Also, reduce your consumption of processed foods which are high in sodium and any foods that are preserved or pickled.

Refined Foods

These foods are very common and include flour based food such as white bread, pastries, cakes and cookies. These foods contain a lot sugar which has very little nutritional value to the body. They also affect your blood glucose levels by raising it up and down erratically which results in short term energy highs and long term energy slumps. These foods are also very difficult for the body to digest. The body has to work harder to digest the fat in these foods which has the effect of using up more of the body's essential vitamins minerals and nutrients.

Always seek a doctor's advice if you have a medical condition or food allergy before changing your diet.
