Incentive Reward - France Offers Film Making Tax Incentives

In a recent move the French tax authorities have given tax incentives to the various categories related to the film making. While this act is largely targeted to the U.S. filmmakers, this tax break has made France more attractive location for international projects.

The official response for this tax break came from the French Minister of Culture, Fredric Mitterrand. He has encouraged the low budget film making to focus on the various locations in France. Along the tax breaks the France has also reduced the filming restrictions on various sensitive areas that were taken out after the fear of terrorism two years back. All these incentives and breaks are aimed to the budget weary film makers from world especially Hollywood.

The minister insisted that the rich French film making tradition needs to be carried forwards. He cited that the invention of camera was done in here as well. He rejected the notion that France is expensive for the movie making, in a comparison between the different Mediterranean counties he showed France costs similar if not less.

While these incentives are given for the Hollywood film makers mostly, the fact remains that there is an anti American image of French. This matter was also discussed in detail when the minister said that the American studios are most welcome back to France, and the creation of friendly image is required from both the sides. Interestingly some of the critics are saying this as the French answer to the growing film making in rest of Europe including Germany, Czech Republic, and United Kingdom.

Interestingly French minister of culture has also worked as film maker in the past and is the nephew of the famous French leader Francois Mitterrand. The feeling in the media is that his efforts to change the image have some decent chances of success. During his visit in Hollywood, in March 2011, he had long sessions with various studio heads including Warner Brothers, and Walt Disney too.

Returning back home French Minister is hopeful of the strengthening of the film making ties. This is unique opportunity not only for the Hollywood but France as well to bring together their strengths and share the better cinematic visions with the world. The power visit of the Minister is quite successful in terms of generating the right image, even one news channel called on him to be French Consulate General in Beverly Hill. Interestingly some of the critics are saying this Incentive Reward as the French answer to the growing film making in rest of Europe including Germany, Czech Republic, and United Kingdom.
