During the later stages of pregnancy, a lady feels much discomfort, and the pain from sciatica is an added problem, though common one among them. The reason for sciatica affecting pregnant ladies is not difficult to understand. The growing belly puts a lot of strain on the muscles supporting the lower body, i.e., the hips, thighs, abdomen and legs, and it is very likely, the sciatic nerve originating in the lower back comes under pressure and causes additional misery to the already burdened lady. But this need not be suffered for long, because there are ways in which the pain on account of sciatica can be handled, even at home.

>> Learn How to allow Nature to cure your Sciatica using Simple Home Remedies .

The simplest remedy for sciatica among pregnant ladies, is exercise. There are some very moderate exercises which she can do very easily, and rid herself of the pain. These exercises need to be done 3-4 times a week, in 15-20 minute sessions, and can be continued even after the pain disappears, because they also strengthen the muscles of the lower back and abdomen, so that delivery goes smoothly.

The following exercises can be tried out however, depending on the comfort level of the individual :

1 Sit on the floor, and using your hands to provide resistance against your knees, flex the knees up slsightly, and then flex them down slightly, somewhat similar to the motion when a tailor uses a leg sewing machine. The muscles of the inner thigh are strengthened by this means.

2 Sit on the floor, with knees bent and soles of the feet in contact with each other.

Bend slightly forward. Relax, and go back to original position. Repeat 10 times. This will ensure that your hip and thigh muscles remain in good order while relieving the pressure on your back.

3 Sit straight in a chair, with your shoulders relaxed, head facing forward. Bring your left ankle over to your right knee. Hold this position for 20-30 seconds, relax and repeat with the other leg. Do this 5-6 times. The hip muscles will remain flexible with this exercise.

Going for walks if the weather permits, is also recommended. However, this should not be overdone, so as to put any strain on the lady.

Meanwhile, a little attention to the diet will help a great deal. There are certain food substances which if consumed, will help to soothe injured nerves. Vitamin B1 is one such ingredient, found in bananas, beans, nuts, green leafy vegetables, whole grain cereals, especially unpolished. Supplements can also be taken. The juice of celery leaves mixed with potato juice is also a good medicine for the nerves.

A pregnant lady suffering from sciatica need not despair, nor need she worry about the pain.

As can be seen, it is possible to treat it with home remedies, and with a little effort and determination, she should be rid of the pain soon.
