Gynaecomastia Surgery-the End Of Man Boobs?

, male breast reduction is now possible. There is now a relatively simple gynaecomastia surgery that can now be performed to help men eradicate their man boobs and get their confidence back.
Interestingly, there is no definite cause of male breast enlargement but there are some factors that seem to exacerbate the condition. It can be an imbalance of testosterone and oestrogen, the sex hormones.
Sometimes the condition is hereditary, or can be a reaction to certain drugs such as steroids, anti-depressants or recreational drug use. In older men, Gynecomastia is a result of decreasing testosterone levels which is considered to be just a normal part of the ageing process.
Ideal candidates for the procedure are healthy, within the correct weight range and crucially, that the breast development has stabilised. It's also important to have realistic expectations about the procedure. Talking to your cosmetic plastic surgeon about what to expect is ideal.
What happens during the procedure? There are the older methods of male breast reduction surgery, and there is the newer Vaser lipo procedure.
First, the older methods: The excess tissue can be removed in three ways; either by excision with a scalpel, liposuction or a combination of the two. The surgeon will make an incision in either the underarm area or on the areola. They will then cut away the excess fat, tissue and skin starting from the sides and working through the incision. If the surgeon is using liposuction, a thin tube (called a cannula) is inserted into the breast with a small incision and the fat cells are suctioned out. General anaesthesia is usually required for this procedure, as well as an overnight stay in hospital.
Vaser Lipo is a far gentler way to get rid of male breasts. The excess pectoral fat is broken up by the vaser ultrasound energy. Only the fat is treated, the ultrasound energy doesnt damage other structures such blood vessels. Vaser lipo can be performed using only local anaesthesia, and the patient can go home afterwards.
Typically, the procedure doesn't take much longer than an hour and a half and can be performed in an outpatients surgery but this depends on what the surgeon recommends.
There is a little discomfort to be expected afterwards, (more with the older surgical methods) and the pain can be relieved using some prescription painkillers from your surgeon.
Talking to your doctor about gynaecomastia recommended. He can give you a referral to a cosmetic plastic surgeon if he thinks you would benefit from gynaecomastia surgery.
