Getting Inside Your Head To Lose Weight
It seems like we all have someone in our lives that is trying to lose weight and
most of us know several people that are trying to lose weight at any given time. But the majority of people that under take the challenge of losing weight are unsuccessful and many of the ones that do manage to get the weight off do not keep it off. Why is this? What keeps people from reaching this goal? We can be the best parent in the world and the most successful career person, but when it comes to our weight many of us just can't seem to get there.
There are a large number of food plans and there is usually one that will meet your needs and can be followed without much problem. But one of the things that controls our eating that many programs do not deal with is emotional eating. This is what goes on in our head that causes us to eat when we are stressed, angry or bored. If we ate only when were hungry and for no other reason at all, most of us could eat whatever we wanted as long as we stopped when we were satisfied.
One of the biggest problems we have is eating when we are not hungry and eating long past the point of being full. Eating a balanced diet is important as well as exercising regularly. But if we learn to eat only when we are hungry and only until we are full, we are more than halfway there. Take the time to pay attention to the signals that your body sends and feed it when it is hungry. If you are getting ready to put something in your mouth, take the time to think about whether you are hungry or if you are eating to satisfy another emotion.
Many people will keep a journal to learn to recognize their hunger. They rate their hunger based on scale from 1 to 10 and keep track of how satisfied they are after they have eaten. It is also a good idea to record what you were doing at the time you ate and what was going on around you. These are things that will help you determine if you are eating for a reason other than being hungry.
With the media today, almost everyone has some idea what is a healthy food choice and what is not. Many of us are not overweight because we do not know how to eat, but it is because we are using food as a coping mechanism. This is something that will take time to overcome, but if you work at it one day at a time, you will eventually see the weight come off as you learn to deal with your problems without the help of food.
