The orphanage looks after and protects the abandoned and orphaned wild elephants in the country and gives kids the opportunity to see elephants up close and personal. Another great place to see elephants is during the months of July and September at Minneriya National Park which is well known for the largest gathering of Asian elephants in the world.
The Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project is another activity that the kids will love during your family travel in Sri Lanka. This project conserves the endangered marine turtle species that nest along the west coast of Sri Lanka. Children and adults alike can observe the process of marine turtles nesting, hatchlings being born, and swimming out to sea, without interfering with its natural breeding habits.
Another fabulous area to visit during your family holiday in Sri Lanka is Galles 17th century Dutch Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The area is well preserved and has lovely views of the ocean, and a shallow area for kids to swim in as well. The Dutch Galle Fort area has narrow streets with restaurants, guest houses and other places of interest.
