Court Cases Requiring a DC Criminal Lawyer

A DC criminal lawyer would be required by any persons involved with a criminal court case. This would usually be the suspect or defendant in the case and who would become known as the lawyers client. A criminal lawyer would only be hired for a criminal case and not usually for any form of court case brought under civil law.
For a case to be considered as criminal, the crime committed has to be considered as endangering the public or wider society. These crimes are wide ranging and are usually defined under government, federal and state law and statutes. Each state within the United States will make their own laws under their own jurisdiction, and as such only a lawyer familiar with the laws of a particular state should be hired. For instance, a crime committed in DC would require a DC criminal lawyer.
Criminal lawyers will usually work out of private practice and their clients would meet with them at their offices. Occasionally a lawyer may visit a client at their own home, place of work or in other circumstances in a state facility. The role of the lawyer is to advise and support their client on their case and to offer advice on how best to proceed with their case.
Much of their work will involve researching applicable laws, statutes and past cases in order to build a case which will best serve their client. Whether they look to absolve their client of all guilt in the case or seek a more lenient sentence, they will try to present the best possible case to the court with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for their client. In some cases they may advise the entering of a plea bargain in which the client will plead guilty to all charges in return for a more lenient form of punishment.
There are many other key players involved in a criminal court case, including witnesses, enforcement officers, judges, jury members and lawyers. There are also many procedures which must be adhered to during the investigation and arrest of the suspect, and during the court case itself. It is the role of the prosecutor to decide on whether a case can be brought to court, despite the wishes of the victim concerned. If insufficient evidence is available to secure a conviction then the case may never be brought to trial.
It is the role of a DC criminal lawyer to dispute the evidence presented by the lawyer for the prosecution and to present a case absolving their client of any part in the crime. Should their client plead guilty, then the lawyer may present a case to the judge citing any extenuating circumstances faced by their client which led them to commit the crime and which may help bring about a more lenient sentence.About the Author:
