Couples Trying To Conceive - Common Reasons For Infertility Problems

For most couples becoming parents is the biggest event in their lives

. Most people assume that getting pregnant will be easy, and that after a few months of trying to conceive, they will become pregnant. Unfortunately, many couples find that they are unable to get pregnant as easily as they imagined and decide to undergo fertility treatments in order to increase their chances of becoming new parents.

Reasons for Fertility Problems

Age plays a large role in how easily a woman can conceive a child. After the age of 35 it becomes more difficult for a woman to become pregnant, and by the age of forty many women need to undergo fertility treatments in order to conceive.

Someone who leads an unhealthy lifestyle may have more trouble conceiving than a healthier individual. Smoking, alcohol and drug use can have a major impact on someone's fertility. High levels of stress are another common reason for infertility.

It is not only older women or unhealthy individuals who deal with infertility issues; even young, healthy couples may be surprised that they are unable to conceive a child without medical intervention. Medical conditions, environmental pollution and chemical additives in foods and household products play a role in the rising rates of infertility.

Infertility rates have increased over the years, and based on the current day lifestyle, most experts believe that infertility rates among both males and females will continue to rise in the future.

Fertility Treatments

A fertility specialist conducts a series of tests to determine the cause of someone's infertility. Once the expert knows what problems the male or female is having, he can recommend an appropriate treatment plan. If a man has a low sperm count, the specialist may make health, lifestyle and dietary suggestions that will help.

Women are often treated with fertility drugs which lead up to artificial insemination or in-vitro fertilization. Hormone treatments will prepare the woman's body for pregnancy, increasing her chance of conception. Fertility treatments are expensive, but since the treatments allow many couples with infertility issues to conceive they are well worth the price.
