College Dating 101
Its your first day out of high school. Driving off into a whole new world called college may only be the start of your journey towards adulthood and the first step out of the protective care of family and friends back home. College will be a different experience where youll get to study subjects you really care about, explore the world outside of your comfort zone, and of course, meet new people. The raring young adult that you are, though hormones not as raging as in high school, you still have to consider some precaution in looking for a worthwhile partner in college. Here are some tips for your first foray into college dating.
Learn how to have fun. College gives you the license to go out (without asking for your parents permission!) and more importantly, to go home as late as you want. Dont lock yourself up in your room all day and all night. Go out. Meet new people. Attend parties.
Strike up a conversation with a stranger. You can make new acquaintances who might become your friends, and possibly potential partner/s someday. Talk to the girl/guy you sit next to in class. Compare notes. Converse with the person you see also waiting in the hallway for the next class.
Muster up the guts to ask your crush out for coffee, or as a plus one to the next party. Youre in college now, a lot smarter and bolder than when you were in high school. Suck it up and approach your crush. If you get rejected, shake it off. Be thankful no one from your high school was there to witness it and move on.
Be open-minded. Dont go for the same type always. Expand your horizons.
College dating is very much different from the one you might be used to. There are a lot of different options for you as there are a more diverse set of people around you know. Get to know someone who might have different beliefs from yours and look for a common ground. It will be a more rewarding experience than hanging out with the same crowd and dating the same people over and over again.
Keep your eyes and heart open at all times. That only applies when youre single though. Sometimes love can be found in the most unexpected of places. Sure, you might meet a hot girl/guy in a party, but if youre looking for a relationship that would last more than a day (or night, that is) together, you might consider looking in a different place. Look for a good place to hang-out on campus. It doesnt matter if it is the nearest pub to the school or maybe even the library.
Date but dont forget to study. While it may be important to keep an active social life, do not forget your purpose of being in college to study. College dating can wait, at least for a while. Trust me, your future partner will thank you for that.
