Is College Dating Still Practiced?

To many college students, dating never appears in their vocabulary

. It sometimes makes them think as an old-fashioned relic that their parents have gone through and is going to be extinct in the next few years. Dating is now becoming just a mere word that people are getting into when they are at the edge of being married with their partner.

College students do not believe in the sacredness of dating since the online technology have given them a lot of options in contacting or getting to know more about their potential partners. Men are no longer expected to pick their date from their house and take her to a fancy restaurant for dinner. Also, men are not always expected to pay for the food that they have eaten during their date. These changes in the society have given most college students a questionable look whether the traditional practices of dating is still alive or becoming out-of-date.

There are still some college students that still believe to the power of traditional dating. They said that there are just changes due to the modernization of the society hence making it too casual for older people. Dating in todays modern world becomes very informal.

Simple dinner and movie dates can be a normal scene, dinner in most cafeterias or even just a trip to the library together can be considered as a date. Some college students in Virginia pointed out that a couple who agrees to go out together can be considered as a dating partner.

Also, the change in the word dating became too complicated due to too many ambiguous words that describe it. Open relationships, hooking-up, friends with benefits, and just-talking are some of these words. These are the words that make it too difficult for college students to commit into a lasting and serious relationship. As a result, they just settle for options that will not hinder them into getting into other relationships.

A lot of social media networks also allow them to find their potential partners online. There are some who are using their Facebook accounts to ask the girl that they like out for a lunch or snack after lectures. Social media networks have played a huge role in making college students perceive dating as just a simple part of their daily college life.

Sometimes, the word hooking-up is the most favorable dating phrase for most college students. It is a simplified definition when a girl and guy get together for some physical encounter without any expectations. This can range from just mere kissing to having sex. But for most professionals, hooking-up is a word described for a third party involved inside a two-person relationship.

College students are very much aware of almost everything about courting, dating and sexual relationships. Even online college dating websites are readily available in the World Wide Web. Dating, although it may seem a little old-fashioned for the young generations, can be an effective tool in knowing whether you and your potential partner are right for each other.
