If you are like me, you may think coupons are worthless. Save $.25 off a box of cereal or save $.50 off paper towels. Well, recently I had the fortunate privilege of realizing how valuable coupons can be. All my life, I would read the Sunday paper and toss the coupon inserts in the garbage. However, in the last 3 months, I've really started to see the value and benefit of saving and using my coupons.
What turned me around to coupons?
I discovered that the key to effective couponing is using coupons on sale items. That's right, you need to plan ahead and only buy items that are on sale each week. That means if you want granola bars, and they are on sale then buy enough boxes to get you to the next sale. Also, be sure to use your coupons when purchasing the on sale granola bars. Let me explain a little more.
Granola bars were on sale at my local grocer at buy one get one free. The regular price is $2.99. I also had some coupons for $1.00 off 2 boxes of granola bars. I purchased 12 boxes of granola bars and used 6 of the $1.00 off coupons. The total cost after coupons was $11.94. If I didn't have the coupons and the bars weren't on sale then I would have spent $35.88. That is a total savings of $23.94. Wow, who would have thought those little $1.00 off coupons would have been able to save me so much money.
Since I've discovered this little technique, it has truly revolutionized the way I shop. I plan ahead and stock up. I review the Sunday newspaper for anything that I may buy, and I even visit sites online to purchase coupons for mere pennies.
