Cat Practice Test: Don't Judge Qs, Focus On Review Function

With the launch of the Practice Test by the IIMs and Prometric the MBA aspirants

are now not only getting access to a fully functional practice test, but also getting to know about the different elements of the CAT 2010 user interface, such as the buttons for navigation, the Review screen, Marked Questions, Incomplete Questions, Quit Test. The overall aim of the IIMs is to give all the MBA aspirants the ability to interact with CAT well ahead of their testing day.

The Practice Test is certainly providing the answers, but two key questions that are now arising are: What is the difficulty level of the questions given in the practice test? and What modifications does CAT 2010 test user interface has as compared to CAT 2009 user interface?

MBAUniverse.com put these queries to Mr. Manish Saraf, COO, PT Education to get the answers.

On the question of difficulty level of the questions in the practice test Mr. Saraf said, As far as the difficulty level of the questions in the tutorial is concerned, I believe we should not judge the difficulty level of CAT 2010 through this tutorial. The aim of tutorial is to familiarize the aspirants with the functionality. Also, tutorial cannot be taken as a scale to judge ones preparation, though questions in the tutorial were on the easier side and not covering entire space of CAT syllabus. We must remember that it has been a practice of CAT to provide sample questions since the days of paper based test.

In an interview to MBAUniverse.com, Prometric India Managing Director Soumitra Roy had also said, The Practice Test will be just demo test; the difficulty level of the practice test will NOT reflect the actual difficulty level of CAT 2010. These are simply to show the layout of the screen, various buttons and to familiarize the candidates with what they will see on the actual testing day.

To the question on changes visible in the test user interface, Mr. Saraf said, No! There is not much difference compared to last year. I think that the review function has been explained in detail in the tutorial. It must be understood nicely by all the aspirants, as it was a grey area last year for early test takers.

Mr. Saraf advises all CAT 2010 test takers to go through the tutorial video in detail and regularly visit the CAT website. As for preparation work on your strengths, take practice test regularly and dont try anything new i.e. venturing into new areas/concepts is not advisable, he said.
