Can the lottery be manipulated

Can the lottery be manipulated? Have you ever questioned the legality of the lottery draws run by your lottery operator, I have. Im sure over the many years you have been playing your countries lottery, you have seen some combinations of numbers that seem to be drawn on a regular basis. Or, you have seen rollovers happening the same time every year, especially leading up to Christmas.

I have played and studied the UK national lottery from the first day it started back in November 1994, so I have some idea of how the number combinations work. When the lottery first started back in 94, we used to have quite a few winners of the jackpot every week. At the time, playing the football pools was the only way you could win a substantial amount of money for a modest outlay, 45p compared to 1.00 for the lottery. So playing the pools for 45p and possibly winning a million pounds, wasnt in the lottery operators favour. Why would any one want to pay a 1, and win maybe 300,000, because of the amount of winners when, they could pay 45p, and maybe win more on the football pools.

Then one week it suddenly stopped, the amount of winners for each draw dropped, from having 10, 15 winners, it went to a couple or even just one, with bigger jackpots. And its been the same nearly every draw since? So, how could the lottery be manipulated? This is how I think it would be done. All the balls are normally made from rubber, so, what if the six balls that the lottery operator wants to be drawn, each have metal filings embedded in the rubber. This, along with the opening of the chute were the balls are ejected into the tray, being magnetised, would result in those six balls been selected.

I know the lottery operators will tell you that the machines and the balls are tamper proof and, that they are verified before each draw by an independent judicator but, we only have their word for this and, is the independent judicator looking for the right thing?

Another thing that makes me question the legality of the draws, is the lucky dip option. Some time ago in our national tabloids, a gentleman who asked for two lucky dips, received two identical lines of numbers. When a spokesperson for Camelot the UK lottery operator said, the computer will more than likely pick a set of numbers more than once. This got me thinking! I have never known more than one winner, winning a share of the jackpot using the lucky dip option, why. You decide for yourselves?

So, do you think your lottery operator is manipulating the draws. Only time will tell?About the Author:
