Areas In London, South Yorkshire And Manchester Are Car Theft Hotspots
Latest research has revealed the hotspots for car crime
. Car owners living in areas of London, South Yorkshire and Manchester are more likely to be victims of car thieves. Motorists living in this area are also more at ris of having their cars broken into. In this shocking new research, drivers living in Chislehurst, Kent, or Wingate, Cleveland are three times more likely than average to have their car stolen. According to the research 1.17% of car owners across the UK have made a claim for theft on their motor insurance.
The research was founded by a price comparison website during a study of the top 20 locations for stolen car claims on car insurance. 3.8 million car insurance quotes were analysed to show that car owners in Chislehurst were three times more likely to make a claim on the car insurance because they have had their vehicles stolen. Other areas of the country that have been branded as car theft hotspots included Sheffield and Bradford which came up high in the top 20 list.
Other towns that have been blacklisted as stolen car hotspots include Essex towns Romford and Ilford. What the research shows is there is no specific area in particular that is worst for car crime in the UK. It seems that car crime is high in the north of England as well as the south eastern parts of the UK.
"The research reveals a broad mix of places across the country are at risk, highlighting the issue that no matter where you live, there is always a chance you could become a victim of theft and motorists should take this risk seriously," said Steve Sweeney, moneysupermarket.com head of motor insurance.
And its not hard to spot what these thieves are after when they break in to cars and steal them. Car robbers are tempted by expensive gadgets that are left on show in our cars. These could be anything such as an expensive CD player or a sat nav that has been left attached to the window holder.
Many vehicles now contain expensive gadgets such as sound systems and sat nav systems, so they have become even more of a target for opportunistic thieves, said Mr Sweeney.
According to Mr Sweeney: "Securing vehicles properly and always ensuring you have locked up and parked in a safe place are the easiest things motorists can do to safeguard their car and the items within it. Likewise, motorists concerned about becoming victims of theft could install an alarm or use a steering wheel lock as a deterrent to thieves."
So to avoid being an easy target make sure you take your sat nav's and your CD players into the house with you to avoid any low-lying criminal to break in and steal your goods or your car. It can't be a nice feeling waking up and going to work only to find some thief has driven away with your pride and joy.
