Artificial sweeteners that you can use to sweeten your drinks or that is found in diet soda is supposedly a no calorie food

. Logically this should mean that you can eat as much as you want and not gain any weight right? However, this just isn't the case. These sweeteners are actually causing you to gain more weight than they are helping you get slim.

You may have tried drinking diet soda so you can still get your pop fix and not gain weight right? How'd that work out? Studies have shown that people who drink diet soda are actually more prone to gaining weight than people who drink the sugary stuff.

This is because artificial sweeteners are chemicals and they will overwhelm your liver. Your liver is largely responsible for you losing or gaining weight, so you want to make it as easy as possible on the organ as you can.

When you are constantly eating artifical sweeteners, the liver has to work over time to filter out all that junk and doesn't get to focus on important things like processing nutrients and fats for your body.

So while you may not be eating more calories (since those artificial sweeteners are chemicals, not food) your liver won't get a chance to effectively filter the food you do eat and help your body stay healthy.

This will cause your body to store fat and hold onto what's there, making it almost impossible to lose weight.

The best thing to do is stop drinking soda altogether, and use natural sweeteners like honey, stevia, or agave syrup to sweeten your drinks.
