BMW has separated many of its vehicle classes into a numbering system to help consumers
decide more easily as to which vehicle that they wish to purchase. The 6 Series is designed as a mid-level/executive car with further letter designations to denote that further options, such as M being performance-oriented. This BMW 330 review features a car from the 3 Series, which are entry-level luxury/executive compact cars, but also offer SUVs in the X range. As with most BMW vehicles, they represent the best of their engineering and affordable for the average buyer, though there are higher-quality options that come at more expensive tiers.
Series 3
The Series 1998-2005 models were designated E46. The first model to be released was the saloon and it directly replaced the previous E46 generation, as do the following vehicles: the coupe, touring, convertible, M3 and the compact. With the released of the M54 vehicles, the E46 received engine upgrades, specifically the 330 being outfitted with a 3.0L to replace the 328 and the 2.5L was renamed to the 325. Additionally, there were also cosmetic upgrades, which the 330 also received; the front fascia was fitted with silver accents.
The E46 was generally considered a successful model and received acclaim from many locations, as well as awards for being one of the best cars every year of its production. Additionally, it is also considered the benchmark in terms of performance for its class. This success easily led to sales and it did exceedingly well.
Phasing Out The E46
Around 2007 is when most of the E46 models were discontinued, as the newer models were a complete redesign. Replacing every model, from the saloon to the compact, they began phasing out the E46s in 2004-2005 with the compact model. The final to be replaced was the coupe and convertible. In 2010, this newer generation has saw its first models being made obsolete by a the latest generation.
