A Correct Diet Can Get Rid Of Belly Fat
There is a plethora of information on how to eat properly to keep from gaining weight
. There are also different ways to eat to help you lose weight and keep the belly fat off of you. Unfortunately, there is far more false and blatantly incorrect data floating around out there about what a proper diet should consist of, and much of it comes from so-called experts.
A huge misconception about weight control is counting calories. While there is some validity to it, way too much emphasis is put on how many calories you are taking in as opposed to the source of those calories. This is the reason familiarity with the glycemic index is vital.
The glycemic index of a food is, simply put, a measure of how fast your body absorbs sugar from a food. One food may be higher in calories than another food but if the glycemic index of the second food (with less calories) is significantly higher than the first food it will be more harmful, in terms of weight gain, than the higher calorie food.
Here is an example. Ice cream, although high in calories, is not nearly as high on the glycemic index as a piece of chocolate cake. Therefore, if someone wants to cheat on their diet ice cream would be a better choice that cake. I'm not saying you should cheat on your diet, but let's face it, it happens.
If a food has both fat and or protein in it, it will generally be a better food for you to eat in terms of the glycemic index, and thereby prevention of weight gain, because the fat and protein help keep the sugar from being absorbed too quickly into the body.
When you eat sugar your body sends a message to release insulin. When your body releases too much insulin it causes the body to store fat and that is the whole point of why knowledge of the glycemic index is such a vital tool in losing weight or just controlling or maintaining one's weight. And that is why knowledge of the glycemic index of various foods is much more important than knowledge of the calories of a food.
This helps explain why foods that are high in fat don't cause you to gain weight like foods that are high in sugar will. This is why fat free foods, i.e. where the fat is removed, are more harmful to a person on a diet than the same food with the fat intact, like low fat sour cream or regular sour cream, for example.
To get information on the glycemic index on any food you can simply "google" it. There are many different sites that will show you a graph of the glycemic index of a large variety of foods.
In another later article soon I will cover the hazards of high fructose corn syrup, which is even worse for dieters than simple sugar. But for now get familiar with this information I've given you here and that will be a great start in your battle against belly fat.
