This may be true in some cases but a car is one of the biggest money-drainers you will ever buy - and buy routinely. A brand new car will generally lose HALF its value in the first three years. Also, cars are getting more and more reliable as each year goes past - yes, it may cost a little to keep it running another year, but it's probably a lot less than you would spend on a new (or nearly new) car.
