Exercise Improves Brain OperateThe first, printed in the Journal of Gerontology and highlighted within the Wall Street Journal, demonstrates that a few hours of aerobic exercise a week helps keep brains young. The study followed 3 groups of adults, aged 60-79. One cluster performed aerobic coaching by walking around a gym for an hour daily, 3 days a week. The second group performed non-aerobic coaching by stretching and performing some resistance exercises. The third cluster did not exercise.The study found that once solely three months, the aerobic exercise cluster (however neither of the opposite groups) increased their gray matter in frontal brain regions that control higher functions, like memory, multi-tasking, focus and call-making. The aerobic cluster conjointly increased the degree of white matter tracks that cross the brain and carry communication signals between the 2 brain halves.
