In this first article, the relationship between consumerism and the decline of global air quality is addressed.In a 1991 memo on trade liberalization, Lawrence Summers, then Chief Economist of the World Bank, suggested that under-populated countries in Africa are also UNDER-polluted and that their air quality is "vastly inefficiently low compared to Los Angeles or Mexico City."
