Winnsboros Newest Housing Facility: Offers Total Comfort & Amenities In Abundance

Burton Star Properties has broken ground on Phase 1 of a new apartment complex called The Leaves

, within walking distance of downtown Winnsboro on 5.5 acres of meadows.

Peter and Janice Schma, Winnsboro residents, purchased a 20-unit apartment complex in Emory called Featherbrook Apts. back in August, 2007. Seeing the need for more housing in Winnsboro, they started looking for property on which to build comfortable housing. Once they found a suitable site, they started construction on The Leaves. Offering guests a quiet, carefree lifestyle close to town, The Leaves has all the comforts and amenities needed to make living in an apartment cozy and satisfying.

The Schmas lived in Richardson until the last 2 of their 4 sons graduated from high school in 2005. Having owned a home at Lake Cypress since the late 90s, they decided to take the plunge and moved to their lake home full-time just 3 years ago. Peter owns and manages Innertex Construction, a general construction business in Richardson.

Since Innertex is the contractor for The Leaves, Peter and Janice are hands on in the construction of this project. Scheduled for opening in the late summer or fall of this year, The Leaves will offer luxury-style apartments with floorplans of 2B/2B and 3B/2B, ranging from 1,083 to 1,265 square feet. Each unit is 1 level, giving tenants a choice of living on the ground The Leaves, Winnsboros newest housing facility, offers total comfort & amenities in abundance, all at affordable pricingfloor or the 2nd level.

Currently underway, Phase 1 is just the beginning of a 3 phase process. One the apartments are fully leased, Janice and Peter will begin Phase 2, which will be Garden Style homes located by the back of the property near Connie Mae Drive.

Until they are ready to begin Phase 2, Peter and Janice plan on returning the back side of the property to meadows and garden spots. Trees and shrubs will define the property along with custom stonework and metal fencing surrounding the property.

Phase 1 will include a total of 32 units. Prices start at $700 and up per month and include covered parking, water, sewer and waste disposal.

Stainless-look appliances, dishwasher, microwave, easy clean glass-top stoves, refrigerators with ice maker and a garbage disposal will be included in every unit. Also, laundry room with washer/dryer connections, ceiling fans and easy-to clean hardwood laminate flooring will be included. Washer/dryer rentals will be available as an option.

Assisting Peter and Janice with the operations of the business

is Cathy Mitchell, manager of their Richardson office. With calls already coming in from the Metroplex, they need all the help they can get.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, stated Janice. The comments coming in are that this is what the community has needed for a long time. Now, the Schmas are giving back to the community theyve grown to love.
