Why Losing Weight Doesn't Mean You're Fit
There is a very clear distinction between losing weight and losing body fat
. Most people nowadays use the concept of losing weight as a gauge for determining how physically fit or healthy a person is. In fact the latter provides a better indicator of a person who is physically fit or healthy.
For any person who is exercising or body building the best indicator of fitness is the body composition and not the body weight. The main reason is because muscle tissues are usually dense than fat tissues. Thus although you may be having a low body weight this does not necessarily mean that you have low fat content. Weight scales can therefore be deceptive since fat weigh less than muscle tissue.
Many articles tend to offer solutions on how to lose weight instantly within a few weeks or months. They concentrate mostly on how to lose the weight without focusing on the most important factor which is fat reduction. This subsequently causes people to opt for the easier way out such as taking laxatives or even prescribed fat blockers which are readily available nowadays.
Before committing to any exercise program it is advisable to first understand how fat loss in the body takes place. Fat lose in the body usually occurs through a sequence which relies mostly on your genetics, steroids (hormones) and also your age. For instance in males and a few females the last place to become lean or the fast place to gain fat is the midsection.
In females and a few males however, the last place to become lean or the fast place to gain fat is the hips. You should thus refrain from developing a monkey see monkey do mentality" because what might work for me might not necessarily work for you. Therefore depending on which part of your body is mostly affected you can come up with physical exercises which will focus mostly on the muscles existing under the fat. Apart from just doing the normal sit-ups you should incorporate the use of weights in your training.
It is important to note at this point that lean body mass comprise mostly; muscles, bones, organs, nerves, connective tissues and the skin. In other words lean body mass does not include fat tissues in the body. Muscles are active tissues in the sense that they need constant supply of calories to produce energy irrespective of whether they are at rest. This is not the case when it comes to body fat. Muscles are actually the major users of energy; this is due to the fact that they require energy to maintain themselves each hour.
Thus the ratiocination is quite simple, the more muscular (lean body mass) a person is, the faster their metabolic rate will be. The higher the metabolic rate the more fat a person will lose. This is normally the reason why a muscular person can eat a lot of food without putting on weight. A person with a high concentration of body fat and a low concentration of body muscles will find it quite hard to retain their existing body weight even after eating very little food.
It is therefore important to come off this lose weight fast shams, because they will never work for you in this lifetime or the next .Instead follow routines which will lead to increase in your muscles via weight training, and also start to increase your metabolic rate through cardiovascular training.
In conclusion the best gauge for a healthy and fit body should be your body composition i.e. how lean your body is and not how much you weigh.
