Why Is It So Hard To Lose Weight? Overcoming Common Weight Loss Obstacles

Why is it so hard to lose weight these days? With more than half the population overweight

and approximately 1/3 obese, we're not doing too well on the weight loss front.

But if you're starting to get discouraged - don't. It's actually very possible to lose weight.

The problem is that many people are facing weight loss obstacles that are sabotaging their success.

They don't realize this so they are blaming themselves thinking that they just can't do it. Weight loss is not in the cards for them. But that's not true.

If you can identify these obstacles and find the right method to get around them, weight loss is not only possible, it's a breeze.

So here are 3 common obstacles you may be facing that are holding you back from the body of your dreams:

#1 Too Much Temptation

Let's face it. We're bombarded with food tempation everywhere we go 24/7. Sweet foods, crunchy foods, rainbow-colors, fluffy goodness, chocolatey dreams and ooey-gooey caramel.

It's hard to eat carrots and lettuce with all of that shoved in your face right?

It's not your fault - it's the world we live in. To get around this obstacle, you can do 2 things.

First of all, don't fight temptation, work with it. You want to eat delicious food right? We all do.

So choose a diet program that offers delicious, mouth-watering foods instead of bland boring dishes. Are you a chocoholic? There are diets that allow for this.

Do you need your pizza fix? There are diet programs that have pizza, mac and cheese and more on the menu. Get out there and find them.

Work with your taste buds and choose diets that allow you to eat delicious foods - so you won't be brought down by all the temptation that surrounds you. You'll be too busy enjoying your food.

#2 No Time

You're probably busier these days than you've ever been. Who has time to prepare meals?

Contrary to what people may think, it's not hunger that kills most diet plans - it's actually lack of time.

You're in a rush and open the fridge. There's nothing there but some left-over pizza - what do you do? Or maybe you open the cupboards on the way out the door only to find - a chocolate bar or a bag of chips.

Convenience foods are easy to grab - but hard on the waistline.

You have a few ways to get around this. Planning ahead here can save you a lot of calories and it's not so hard to do once you start.

Make sure you always have healthy snacks on hand to just grab and go. If you go to a health food store, you're more likely to find healthier grab-and-go foods like apple chips or sugar-free, low fat cookies.

If you don't have time to grocery shop or make meals, try a diet meal delivery service so you always have gourmet, fresh meals on hand, ready to go.

#3 Emotional Eating

This is a big one - particularly for us ladies. No matter how good your diet is, if you're an emotional eater, one bad day can set you back, big time.

You may eat to soothe yourself - to calm down or get energy. You may eat when you're angry or even when you're happy.

And the unfortunate thing is - you're probably not reaching for carrots when this happens right?

In order to overcome this obstacle you need to address the real cause - your emotions.

Start learning how to handle them. I find it helps to take several mini-breaks during the day where I just try to bring my emotions back to center and give myself a soothing pep talk.

Find other ways to soothe your emotions instead of food. For example, maybe taking a long, relaxing bubble bath is what you need. Perhaps talking it out with a spouse or a best friend will help.

Realize too that a lot of times, our emotional eating habits began in childhood when we didn't have any other options. But now we're adults - with a world of options!

Start building your new emotionally-soothing habits today and within a few weeks you'll notice your emotional eating episodes have diminished greatly.

So those are some things you can do to overcome the most common obstacles to weight loss.

Why is losing weight so hard? Because most people face these obstacles without realizing it. And they just keep running up against them without doing anything about it.

But when you take the time to fix these problems, you'll have a much easier time of losing weight and achieving your goals.

Remember that you are worth it. Take the time to invest in yourself and your dreams for a better, healthier body.
