What To Look For When Buying a Wireless Keyboard

What To Look For When Buying a Wireless Keyboard

There are really only two different types of keyboards to choose from. You can either have one that is wired, or you can have one that is wireless. If you find that wires are too inconvenient, you can always choose one that is completely free of wires.

Wireless keyboards need to be able to talk with the computer, and this is done using radio frequencies. Wireless keyboards will come in the form of either USB or the newer Bluetooth. If you don't have Bluetooth on your computer, you will need to use the supplied dongle to connect your device. The USB keyboards will require that you plug in the USB dongle into your USB port.

Wired keyboards are connected to the computer and use its power source, but wireless keyboards aren't connected, so they need batteries to power them. The batteries that will be used will either be Lithium ion, or alkaline batteries. If you use a dongle, you don't need to worry about powering it because the computer will provide enough power for it to work correctly.

The Li-Ion battery is the most technology advanced right now and is best for power users. If you use the computer a lot, your battery will eventually run out, but having a Li-Ion battery, you can use the computer for longer periods of time before having to worry about recharging. If you simply use alkaline batteries, you'll find that you will be replacing batteries often if you use the computer a lot. Li-Ion batteries are great for power users, but they cost a lot more, so if you don't use the computer very much, this may not be the best option or you.

You have some selections to choose from when deciding on a wireless keyboard. You can buy just the keyboard, or you can buy a keyboard that comes with a mouse. Another option is to get a wireless keyboard with touchpad, which is similar to a laptop keyboard. If this keyboard is for a desktop, a plain keyboard, or one that comes with a mouse should work fine. If you need a keyboard for a laptop, you might consider the keyboard with touchpad option.

Sometimes it can be hard to narrow down the right wireless keyboard since they come in so many different variations and prices. Shopping online can help you narrow down your search because most keyboards have a list of specifications. Expect to spend more for newer keyboards with all the up to date features. Some name brand keyboards to look out for include, Dell, HP, Logitech, Microsoft, and Apple.
