What Are The Common Catastrophic Mistakes During Wedding Toast?
Wedding toasts is one of the highlights during the wedding reception
. The best man will be given this responsibility and will take the lead in raising the glass, clink the glass, before sipping the wine or champagne. This simple gesture expresses best wishes and congratulations to the newlyweds.
There are times that speakers commit mistakes in delivering their speeches and in making the wedding toasts. However, this can be avoided if you follow proper etiquette when delivering this task.
Here are the common mistakes most speakers do that should be avoided:
1.Before the wedding toast, avoid drinking too much alcohol. There are some speakers especially those who are not used to this task that drinks before delivering the speech to help them calm their nerves. This will help them boost their confidence and prevent stammer and running out of things to say. However, do not overdo the drinking or you might end up slurring your words making it not understandable. The worst that could happen is you might end up saying embarrassing things making it more uncomfortable.
2.Do not speak too long. Your audiences attention span is short lived. If you make long speeches, it tends to get boring and you will lose your audiences attention span. Make your speech short and direct to the point.
3.Do not make up false stories or exaggerated stories. When sharing something about the couple, it must all be true. Do not put the newlyweds in a compromising situation.
4.When you start talking, do not apologize for being a bad speaker or for your speech. This is not proper. The most important thing is that you say what is in your heart and that you make sincere speeches. This is what matters and it will show. So your audience will never know if it was your first time.
5.Do not mention past relationships of the newlyweds. The wedding is all about looking forward to what might happen in the future and not reminiscing the past with previous relationship. They do not matter and it is very insulting to the couple and to their families as well.
6.Do not tell inappropriate stories about the couple. Remember that your audiences age differs. They might not appreciate your speech. Make your speech a common ground for all your guests age.
7.Practice your speech as often as you could. Unrehearsed wedding toast can lead into disasters. If you are a seasoned speaker then there is no need for you to prepare or practice your speech since it will all come out naturally. But if it is your first time then better practice to prevent embarrassing yourself.
