Weight Loss Products: A Serious Threat To Your Health
Almost everyone wants to lose weight for one reason or another
. It may simply be for vanity's sake, or it may also be due to a serious health problem. Weight loss products come and go but there are dieters who are always ready to buy. Instead of being wary, most people get excited when a new or so-called "breakthrough product" is introduced to the market.
There is certainly something hypnotic about anything that claims to create weight loss that makes dieters throw all caution to the wind. Despite the fact that media has repeatedly reported on the dangers of using some of these products, many people are prepared to compromise their health just to get rid of excess weight. Weight loss may be considered a universal pursuit rivaled only perhaps by the desire to arrest aging.
Our ancestors had been at it as well. People from those ancient days used herbal ingredients as a treatment for various ailments and as a remedy for weight gain. These days when we say "traditional weight loss aids", we are referring to diet capsules and teas. As far as we are concerned however, the use of weight loss products is not the best solution the weight loss dilemma.
We see two problems about weight loss products. Firstly, many of these supplements have formulas that do not work. Dieters only end up wasting their time and money taking these products which do not stand up to their claims. Secondly, although some do generate weight loss, their formulas contain ingredients that are harmful to the body. A case in point is the herbal element Ephedra which was once a commonly used weight loss additive. After it was linked to several reported cases of heart attack, stroke and even death, Ephedra was banned from the market by the FDA for one year.
Another negative effect of weight loss products is, ironically, their unfavorable effect on the metabolic processes of the body. In order to lose weight, the body's metabolic rate needs to be increased as this allows for the more efficient burning of fat. However, weight loss supplements that contain caffeine and caffeine derivatives actually do the opposite. This may come as a surprise to many because caffeine has always been thought of as a metabolic booster perhaps because people usually become hyper after drinking caffeine drinks such as coffee.
Lastly, there is the very real possibility of kidney damage resulting from the use of weight loss products, in particular those that contain diuretics. These are the supplements that simply flush out water from the system and do not really generate true weight loss at all.
Do not let your desire to look better overrun your good sense. The rapid weight loss you expect from using weight loss products is not healthy and it does not last. More importantly, you will have to pay for it with your health sooner or later.
