. Previously the experts believed it was a simple equation of calories in - calories out. The idea was to reduce calories and weight would be lost. But this is only part of the picture. Although a calorie deficit is needed to lose weight how your body uses those calories is equally important.
It has been well proven that restricting food as in 'diets' that have been used for the last forty years don't work and the problem is they fail 95 percent of the time. Yet an even bigger problem is people continue to keep trying them thinking that somehow things will be different this time.
The main point that is being missed is that a healthy metabolism is needed to lose weight (fat). This means hormones (chemical messengers that instruct every process in the body) must be in balance and everything right before the human body will give up its fat stores. Yet if you have become overweight it is highly likely that you do not have a healthy metabolism. Different hormones are out of whack and must be corrected first if you are to be successful with weight loss.
Your biggest friend in the weight loss battle is your lean body mass, more specifically your muscles. This is where the fat is burned to supply your body with energy and the health of these muscles is paramount so they are burning fuel at the highest rate. This condition means they must be strong and healthy. If you do not have a proper exercise program containing mostly strength training exercise it is not possible to have healthy well conditioned muscles. If you have a job that involves manual labor that may well do the trick but how many people have jobs such as this anymore?
So to get a healthy metabolism that can burn the fat off your body is as simple as starting a proper exercise program and doing it with enough intensity (effort) to make the necessary changes to your body's engine (your metabolism). This is so it can increase the amount of fuel you are burning around the clock even when you are parked on the couch watching television.
This of course is the opposite of what we have been doing in the past. We are now going to burn the fat off rather than try and starve it off which didn't work anyway. This way is so much better. For one thing you will have tons of energy and you will feel like being active - really active. Restrictive diets only lead to less of everything - less food, less energy, less activity, less of life. This way will give you so much more - more food, more energy, and more fat loss.
Push aside your old fashioned beliefs and jump on the bandwagon where we don't diet anymore. We simply crank up our metabolic engine with muscle building and maintaining exercise, fuel that with good quality food and before you can blink an eye you will be in the sort of shape you have only previously dreamed about.
