If you ever get invited to a wedding you will probably have to buy the happy couple a gift
. I have had to do this on numerous occasions but always ended up leaving it to the last minute. When you leave it to the last minute it adds to the pressure and in the end you don't know what to buy.
There has been a great deal of interest over recent years in people buying unusual wedding gifts. When you think about it there are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, guests want to try and out do each other or appear to be a little different. Secondly, when couples already live together they already have a lot of things so buying unusual wedding gifts gets around the problem.
A few months ago I was invited to a wedding. I didn't really know the couple as they were friends of my girlfriend. They had been living together for a long time so they asked for donations to their honeymoon. They didn't just ask for money, they did something a little different.
Rather than saying 'just contribute to the honeymoon', they made specific requests. They went through all the activities that they would be doing on holiday and worked out the costs for each. For example, they worked out the cost for meal for one (and two) at a restaurant they liked and gave the price. They did this for a range of activities.
Then you as a guest could view all the activities that they wanted to do. Depending on your budget you can decide what you wanted to contribute. You could buy them breakfast or even a bikini. They would then take a picture of them at the breakfast so you could see them enjoying it.
The couple of this wedding did a great job in helping the guests find unusual wedding gifts. This is something that I would like to see more but at the same time leave the guests a little flexibility.
